Library Resources - Textbooks

Christy Choi Updated by Christy Choi

Does the library have my textbook? What is the library’s policy regarding the purchase of textbooks?

A textbook is a book used in the classroom to introduce students to a subject.  Commonly, textbooks include study questions, discussion topics, study guides, or exercises at the end of each chapter and may be published in subsequent editions to update information in previous editions.

Generally, standard undergraduate-level textbooks are not purchased and added to the library collection due to copyright law.  Selected editions of textbooks may be acquired (on a case-by-case basis) if they have long-term research and study value.

However, you may search the library's website to see if there is a donated copy or your professor's copy on reserve.

The FAQ about Copyright is available from copyright.gov.
